Description
Are you looking for an Immune System activity that requires no prior teaching, zero prep (other than printing and taping 9 papers around your school), that your high-school students will LOVE, and that they will learn so much from? Well... here it is! Immune Expedition!
I use this lesson as an introductory lesson to the Immune System in my classroom; however, you can use it at any point during your Immune System Unit. After decoding 9 clues, students will travel through your school building in search of stations on the Immune System. Each station has a small paragraph, diagram, activity, or video. At the station, students read and complete the tasks and then record their answers in the 3-page Student Packet. Once students have finished all 9 stations, they will return to the classroom and complete a 20-question challenge through Google Forms™. They must be careful though! Each question that they miss on the final challenge adds 2 minutes to their final time! The team with the fastest final time wins!
The timing of this lesson is incredibly flexible. The full lesson took my seniors 60 minutes (we do block classes). You could easily break it into 2 days or pick and choose which parts you want to focus on for a 30-40 minute lesson.
This year my students entered the Immune System Unit with amazing confidence and a strong foundation due to this activity. They were also requesting that I make more activities like it because they had so much fun! You could use it at any point during your Immune System Unit for a break from lecture and labs.
