What educators are saying

This is a great way to start talking about immigration and hearing everyone's stories. I did not make a map because of time, but will definitely use one next year when I do this again. Thanks
Thanks for this easy to use resource. I was blown away with the connections my students made while listening to each other's stories.

Description

This is a whole class project designed to help students get a more in depth understanding of immigration using their own family's stories. Each student learns about a family member (or themselves) who immigrated. They learn the push and pull factors involved in their family's decision to immigrate. Then through telling and learning each other's stories, students gain a vast understanding of different reasons why people immigrate and the hardships they face in doing so.

Students are expected to share their learning through visual (a mini-poster) and oral form (by presenting to their peers).

Do you want to really engage your students in a full and in depth understanding of immigration? In this day and age it is so important for students to understand the challenges and hardships of immigration as well as the push and pull factors that lead to immigration. A greater understanding will lead to greater empathy.
