Description

This product is a fun, hands-on way for students to learn about push and pull immigration factors. Colored candies (not included) represent different groups of people. This game is set up to be played in groups of six but can be modified for smaller groups. Each student represents an imaginary country and as students go through the event cards their population is affected by events listed and they lose or gain their candy population. Students record their population at the beginning of the game and at the end and analyze what occurred in their country and why.

This game is perfect for AP classes and heritage speakers, but with some scaffolding could be used at lower levels also. See the preview for more detailed directions about how to play.

Included are:

  • Details teacher instructions on how to play
  • 24 task cards
  • A 2 page pre and post game recording sheet where students classify events as push or pull factors
  • A one-page reflection of the experience connecting events to the real world

This activity is also available in English.
