Description

This Math Activ Studio flipchart teaches students to identify the faces of a solid shape in geometry. This lesson is aligned with the Houghton Mifflin Math Series, 7.6 - 1st grade. This lesson begins with the "Problem of the Day" in which students must solve a word problem dealing with geometry. Next, the flipchart displays the daily objective, then reviews vocabulary terms needed to understand the content of the lesson: face, corner, and shape. The flipchart also demonstrates how to find plane shapes within solid shapes. The next activity invites students to interactively match the plane shape that falls inside the solid shapes. Next, they are to identify faces of solid shapes. Next is a "showdown" activity, in which students may use their markerboards or just paper. Shown are 4 black screen in which teachers may pull down one by one and have students draw the plane shape they see in each solid shape shown. The students are then given a list of guided and individual work to complete (aligned with the textbook directions). Last, students are given review and closure questions summarizing what they've learned in the lesson, along with a math journal writing activity allowing them to draw solid shapes and describe them.
