Description

Looking for a reference sheet that supports your students in easily identifying functions? This two-page, versatile, quick reference sheet is perfect for guiding your students and their parents through the basics of functions.

Topics Include:

  1. Vocabulary Review
  2. Identifying Functions from Mapping Diagrams, Tables, Ordered Pairs, and Graphs (including the Vertical Line Test)
  3. Identifying Linear vs. Non-Linear Functions from Equations, Tables, and Graphs
  4. Interpreting Graphs of Functions

Six Ways to Use:

  1. Parent Handout - send home the reference sheet in an email to parents at the beginning of the unit.
  2. Fulfill IEP Accommodations - ideal for students who need "copies of notes"
  3. Reference Sheet Wall - Click here to purchase the bundle of reference sheets to create a self-serve wall that grows with each new topic you cover throughout the year so that students can easily access the support they need.
  4. End of Unit Review Study Guide
  5. Anchor Chart- Print Poster Size to create a detailed and easy-to-follow Anchor Chart for your unit. Click here to see how to print using a standard printer.

Why I needed this product and so do you:

My students struggle to take detailed notes and often those that do, do not always share their resources with parents at home or save their resources beyond our current unit. I created this reference sheet as a way to support parents while they help their child with homework and students as they work on their weekly review sheets that cover topics we have studied throughout the year. So whether you are looking for an easy reference sheet to send home to families at the beginning of the unit, or a detailed handout to share with your students to help with review at the end of the unit or school year, this reference sheet has you covered!

Understand that a function is a rule that assigns to each input exactly one output. The graph of a function is the set of ordered pairs consisting of an input and the corresponding output.
Compare properties of two functions each represented in a different way (algebraically, graphically, numerically in tables, or by verbal descriptions). For example, given a linear function represented by a table of values and a linear function represented by an algebraic expression, determine which function has the greater rate of change.
Interpret the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 + 𝘣 as defining a linear function, whose graph is a straight line; give examples of functions that are not linear. For example, the function 𝘈 = 𝑠² giving the area of a square as a function of its side length is not linear because its graph contains the points (1,1), (2,4) and (3,9), which are not on a straight line.
Describe qualitatively the functional relationship between two quantities by analyzing a graph (e.g., where the function is increasing or decreasing, linear or nonlinear). Sketch a graph that exhibits the qualitative features of a function that has been described verbally.
