Id, Ego, and Superego Student Skits

After explaining Freud's idea of the id, ego, and superego, students create skits to demonstrate these psychological phenomena. They are put into groups of three and given one of the scenarios in the document, which usually involve a person facing a moral dilemma of some sort. One student is assigned to id, one to ego, and one to superego. I read their scenario to the class, and then students "act out" the person's personality in making a decision in how to respond to the scenario. One person plays the "id" role and advocates for a selfish resolution, one plays the "superego" role and advocates for a conscience-driven resolution, and the ego sides with one or mediates between the two.

The document includes directions, eight different scenarios, and signs for students to hold up during their skit to indicate the role they are playing.

Here is an example of one of the scenarios:

It is the day before your next Psychology exam. You have been studying hard but are nervous because you typically don’t do very well taking tests. You go to a review session after school. You’re the last one to leave the room, and just as you’re about to close the door you notice a paper on the ground. You pick it up and look at it to discover that it’s actually tomorrow’s exam with the answer key all filled in. How would the id, ego, and superego respond in this situation?
