Description
INDIGENOUS RIGHTS & FREEDOMS YEAR 10 - SOURCE ANALYSIS PACK W/ ESSAY – CONTINUITY & CHANGE
In line with the Victorian Curriculum for history, this resource encourages students to assess and engage with continuity and change, culminating in an essay assessing the continuity and change of Indigenous rights and freedoms in Australia over the past 75 years. This resource can be used and modified to suit anywhere from 5 – 12 lessons depending on student knowledge, ability and available class time. It can be undertaken all at once as an independent task for students or tackled week by week as you progress through content delivery – finishing with the essay at the end of the unit.
The resource is comprised of multiple parts:
- Independent discovery / research (links & articles provided).
- Source analysis.
- Source comparison / extended response writing.
- Essay Plan.
- Final Essay.
Students will undertake source analysis and comparison on 5 differing sets of sources that each look at a different theme of Indigenous rights and freedoms. Each set of sources is accompanied by a background knowledge pack with multiple article and video links for students to explore before interacting with the sources. Analysis and comparison are scaffolded through the provision of a matrix which visually organises their thoughts to a point where they can independently undertake comparison of the source pair.
Progressing through the task students will be asked to plan for and write an essay where the sources they have analysed, and background investigation undertaken will act as evidence. A graphic organiser has been developed for this with students encouraged to make 3 arguments in support of their contention, each supported by at least 2 pieces of evidence from the resource pack.
What’s included:
- Task sheet / teacher guide & suggested introductory video.
- 5 sets of source analysis and comparison.
- 5 sets of background information for each source comparison.
- Analysis matrixes for each source set with accompanying extended response prompt.
- Essay Question.
- Essay Plan graphic organiser.
