What educators are saying

This was a quality resource that my student enjoyed because it helped dive deep into the understanding of Dr. King's speech. Highly recommend!
My students commented on how much they enjoyed using this resource! It helped them to analyze the speech and find literary elements in the speech on their own. Fantastic resource!

Description

Make Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech come to life by letting students uncover layers of meaning through movement and annotation.

NEW: As of January 2021, this resource now includes both MS Office and Google versions.

Here’s how the mini-unit works:

1. Start with an optional Biography and Context lesson. (Teach it live in class or use my provided VIDEO to teach students the night BEFORE the stations as homework.)

2. Students then rotate to 6 stations to gradually add layers of annotations to their copies of the speech. Emphasis is on meaning AND craft, including parallel structure and allusion.

3. You choose if you watch Dr. King’s speech before or after the stations.

4. Follow up with an easy-to-grade quiz to assess understanding of nonfiction text and its writing techniques. (Word doc *OR* self-grading Google Form!)

5. SEE THE PREVIEW for more details.
