Description
This class project involves groups of students selecting unique crew responsibilities to complete a larger goal of landing a human on Mars. Student requirements include scale model drawings of spacecraft, model construction, and unique problem solving. Each group of students work on their own part of the mission, but must collaborate with the rest of the class to make sure that the larger mission objectives remain synchronized. Covers many next generation science and engineering standards, including common core standards. Easily adaptable for grades 3-12. Examples of challenges that students must address during this project include launching off of Earth, landing on Mars, selecting a crew, creating a habitat, feeding the crew, and conducting scientific experiments on the surface of Mars.
