    Description

This package contains everything needed to prepare for and assess the digestive, respiratory, nervous, skeletal, circulatory, and muscular systems.

Using all of the resources in this bundle to review and administer the test can take approximately five one hour long class periods. For more detailed information about each resource please click on the links below.

    • Organ System Essay Test: This is a rigorous one question essay test. An adapted rubric for SPED or ELL students is included. Multiple choice questions are included and can be used if the teacher chooses. (The multiple choice questions can help scaffold the test.) Students should write at least a two page long essay. An example essay is also in the file. Plan on budgeting around two hours for the test. (8 pages)

    • Organ System Essay Test Study Guide: This study guide is designed for students to complete in class (with or without guidance from the teacher) and study at home. Give students about one hour to complete and study their study guides in class. (3 pages)

    • Organ System Review PowerPoint: This PowerPoint is useful to review key points together. It instructs students on making a foldable and gives them practice with the content by answering multiple choice questions. Spend about one hour on this PowerPoint. Extra time can be spent studying the foldables students made in class. (32 slides)

    • Organ System Stations: These stations are useful to review content without using a worksheet. They give students a chance to move around and work with classmates. These stations take about an hour. (18 pages)

*Note: I created this test for my 7th grade science class, but it can easily be used for higher grade levels because it assesses learning at such a rigorous level. When I first tried making a test some years ago, all the questions I made and found in other resources seemed low level and rote. That's when I decided an essay test would be the best way to reveal my students' true understanding of the human body. Since creating this test, I have adapted it and given it to several different sets of seventh graders. One thing I did every year was tell my students in advance about the format of the test so they could get themselves ready and prepare appropriately. This essay test was the most challenging test I gave all year, but it was also the one my students had the highest performance on and the most pride in. Most of my students kept their graded tests all year and showed other teachers. The English teachers and ELL teachers decided to use the student essays in their classes as well, having the students revise and edit their essays during the spring semester.
