Description

I created this assignment for my high school students when we switched to distance learning. I quickly realized that my students lacked the skills to write a professional email.

My inbox was flooded with emails written completely in the subject line, emails without a subject at all, emails with three words in them, emails that were very long and seemed to have no question in them, and emails that seemed hostile.

I realized that these issues were not the fault of the students. The email world is mostly foreign to them.

So I created this assignment to help them learn this new and important skill. In this assignment, you will see a breakdown of the basics of writing an email. This includes specific instructions about how to:

- Write a Subject Line

- Greet the teacher

- Clearly state your purpose

- End your email

The assignment also includes an example email as well as some helpful suggestions when emailing teachers.

I hope this assignment can help you as much as it has helped me. I made this my first assignment in all my online classes. They have to send me an email that fits the criteria in this assignment and they are required to continue to send good emails the remainder of the year.
