How to Draw in 5-Point Perspective!

This PowerPoint presentation contains 130 slides to help you fully understand how to create your own 5-point perspective drawing. It is easier than you may think. This presentation is perfect for an art teacher who teaches drawing, advanced drawing, advanced placement art, perspective techniques, and more. Each step in the process has been broken down into fine detail for a complete understanding of how to create your own 5-point drawing. After teaching 1, 2, and 3 point perspective for years, I’ve increasingly had students challenge me by asking: What’s next?” This presentation is my answer for those students. Once you’ve learned the basics of 1, 2, and 3-point perspective, you too may be ready to try 5-point perspective. What about 4-point you ask? I’ve found that 4-point perspective drawings are uncommon and limited in their applications, but 5-point perspective is quite common and has many practical uses.
This presentation begins with a full understanding of what 5-point perspective (also known as curvilinear perspective) is. Camera lenses, fish-eye photos, downloadable phone applications, and more introduce the basics of understanding how perspective can be bent into curved lines. The presentation then transitions into how you can create your own 5-point perspective drawing. Slides #11 through #45 detail (through actual photos of my own drawing methods) how to use pencil, paper, and a compass to create your own 5-point perspective drawing…including how to create basic forms. Included are links to videos on You-Tube which will clarify certain steps in the process. The presentation goes on to show numerous possible solutions including birds-eye views, and horizontal solutions, in both interior and exterior views. Variations of traditional methods are shown and numerous examples of both professional and student work are included.
