Description

This St. Patrick's Day PowerPoint helps students learn all about leprechauns and how to catch one! It's a great way to introduce a STEM activity making leprechaun traps. Read informational text about what a leprechaun is, the origins of these mythical creatures from Irish folklore, and how these little magical men have evolved over time. Includes St. Patrick's Day legends about leprechauns, the characteristics of these mischievous little elves or fairies, ideas on how to catch them, and several ideas for designing traps! Listen to how a leprechaun sounds and read a short poem from the 18th century about listening for them. Students enjoy hearing how the farmer who caught a leprechaun got tricked, and love watching a link to an old 80's Lucky Charms commercial. 4 different ideas for leprechaun traps are presented.

Present to the whole group, having discussion and interaction along the way, giving the instructions for the STEM activity afterward, then breaking out into small groups to work on their challenge. Have a happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope your students get lucky (and creative) and catch a leprechaun!
