Description

This is a 2-day thematic unit based on the book "How Many Seeds In a Pumpkin" by Margaret McNamara. It incorporates reading, science, writing, and math skills. The reading lesson contains activities that use application of evidence based answers for characterization, plot, and theme/author's message. The science lesson contains an experiment that uses pumpkins of various sizes. Students predict which pumpkin will have the most seeds based on it's size and characteristics. They dig seeds out of the pumpkins and count them to come up with their conclusion. Students write their conclusion using evidence-based information from the story and the experiment. The math plan includes place value, ordering, comparing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and even a hands-on introduction fractions!
