    Description

You will love this K-5th grade Hot Chocolate Science and STEM unit for National Hot Chocolate Day on January 31st. Differentiated worksheets and teacher guide included. Learn about mixtures and solutions while enjoying a yummy treat!

Students will discover that cocoa powder is hydrophobic and the other ingredients create solutions, suspensions, or colloids. Great for teaching the scientific method, science process skills, and engineering design systems. This bundle contains all 3-grade level versions. Students will use their new knowledge in a STEM challenge to create a creamy and yummy cup of Hot Cocoa.

By purchasing this bundle, you are SAVING 20% off each individual resource. The K/1st grade version contains check boxes, pictures with words, and more guidance. The 2nd/3rd-grade version includes word boxes and fill-in-the-blanks to guide writing. 2nd/3rd graders test 3 different temperatures of water and only perform one trial. The 4th/5th-grade investigation tests 4 water temperatures, includes three trials and expands in writing.

You can purchase them individually or the bundle for a discount. This is great for the Science Lab and STEM teacher with multiple grade levels. We also use it to differentiate for students' abilities.

Included in each grade level version:

    • Teacher Guide and Background Information and Tips
    • Alignment to Standards
    • 6-Page Student Investigation Journal
    • A Further Exploration Exploring the Other Ingredients.
    • STEM Hot Chocolate Recipe Challenge
    • 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th Contain Two Reading Passages

Teachers will love the step-by-step directions and journal layout. A food science lab always keeps students engaged. This activity is excellent for science fairs, classrooms, clubs, and science camps.

Storybook Connection: Before performing the unit, read "Grandma's Chocolate / El Chocolate De Abuelita" by Mara Price and illustrated by Lisa Fields. The unit references that the Mayan people were among the first to make hot chocolate, so this story is perfect.
