Holidays Around the World ELA Escape Room Scavenger Hunt Printable

Holidays Around the World has a new twist with this ELA scavenger hunt / escape room. After watching the video hook, your students will be ready to hunt for their presents as they visit and learn about 5 holidays around the world. Who knew students could have so much fun with reading and English Language Arts?

Students begin with a leveled reading comprehension passage and two questions. The challenge is to find the code word for each answer.

Once students have found all the answers, they must unscramble the letters to find the mystery word. The mystery word tells them where they can find their present.

The five festivals include:

• ❇ Diwali - Festival of Light
• ❇ Kwanzaa
• ❇ Japanese New Year
• ❇ Hanukkah - Chanuka
• ❇ Chinese New Year - Spring Festival

The reading passages are all original, written by a teacher (me) about the non-Christmas holiday traditions in fifteen countries. They're at a reading level for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.

There are short videos for each country. These are suggested videos for you, the teacher, to decide if you want to use or not.

This practically NO-PREP resource is in printable PDF format. All your students need are pencils, and perhaps a box of crayons. You can use this year after year.
