Comprehension Guide 2 – (vocabulary/drawing pictures to represent the words, comprehension questions, visual images, nouns, verbs, subject/predicate, joining sentences, pronouns, character change) The lines are larger for writing and there are more opportunities for drawing instead of always writing.

• Possessive Nouns – Students turn nouns into possessive nouns and illustrate their sentences. They must underline the possessive noun and circle the owner of the noun.

Math Games, Stations, and Recording Sheets

• Base 10 Discover, Sort, and Expanded Form – Students select a card with base 10 blocks. They write the number in expanded form.
• Holiday Round-it – Students must round numbers to 10, 20, 30, and 40.
• Holiday Coin Sort – Students must find the value of a given set of coins and determine if the amount is more or less than 50 cents.

I LOVE teaching reading and I feel that by incorporating “Holidays” into my daily reading plans I can engage my students while still teaching reading skills, strategies, and the common core standards.
