Holiday Science And STEM Year Long Bundle | 2nd and 3rd Grade Experiments

Each Unit Includes

Please note that the glow stick journal currently does not contain all of this. We have included it because it is so much fun for Halloween. It contains the experiment and a reading passage. It is a very easy prep lab.

Students will

• follow the scientific method to learn to think like a scientist.
• discover the science of chemiluminescence in glow sticks.
• learn how to make butter and the science of milk and cream.
• create saturated solutions for crystals.
• uncover the science of hot chocolate for making a recipe.
• Measure their heart rate and explain the role of the heart.
• Separate white light into the visible light spectrum and make a spinning top.
• Explore sugar solutions and eggs to understand buoyancy.

Teachers will

• like the step-by-step guides and ideas for material substitutions.
• like having experiments that meet the standards and fit a holiday season.
• be able to integrate this into their units. It can make a complete curriculum with the reading passages. Just add in flashcards, note-taking, other passages, assessments, etc.
• find the included budget form helpful with keeping students from wasting materials.
• enjoy having something that gets the kids discussing science.

The length of each unit varies. You should plan for 2 weeks or more depending on how in-depth you go and how often you see students.

For example, after Thanksgiving, start the Crystal unit and spread it out over the 3 weeks leading up to the holiday break. The students will love ending the unit by creating a crystal ornament to give as a gift.
