History of the English Language 7 Day Unit: Google Drive

This unit includes full lesson plans (from beginning to end) for 7 days. Activities, video and audio clips, handouts, articles, text excerpts, etc. Handouts have a simple format. If you download a PDF converted, these can be easily edited. Answers included.

This unit takes the students from the Indo-European languages to present-day English in a way that is accessible to low level (and high level) students of middle and high school. I designed this lesson for my SPED English course as a precursor to morpheme practice.

The goal of this unit it to expose students to the history of the English language so that they may better understand the nuances, complexity, and relationships with other languages in order to strengthen their overall grasp of the English language. Following this unit, daily morpheme activities can be implemented as part of the basic curriculum.
