Description

This Digital Self-Checking Math Activity allows students to evaluate expressions in a fun and interactive way while being exposed to Hispanic Flags. Perfect for a small link to Hispanic Heritage Month in the math classroom.

Middle school math and Algebra students will apply their understanding of order of operations. Each correct answer will reveal part of a Mystery Picture. Use with 5th and 6th grade math students to practice evaluating or with older middle school and Algebra students to review the concepts.

You can share this activity with your students through Google Classroom™ or another other LMS.

How do Progression Art activities work?

  • If students enter the incorrect answer into the answer box, no pieces of the mystery picture will appear.
  • Pieces of the Mystery Picture will only appear if correct answers are typed into the cells.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems. Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). For example, use the formulas V = s³ and A = 6 s² to find the volume and surface area of a cube with sides of length s = 1/2.
