What educators are saying

My students enjoyed this reading activity, it was interesting. Thanks to the extensive use of cognates it was easy enough to engage even the most struggling students while helping them build their confidence.
This was a great activity to use on a half day and for the kids to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Many of them have no idea who these people are and what contributions to society they have made. Thank you so much for this resource. It's a wonderful reading activity.

Description

These Spanish reading comprehension passages and activities are great comprehensible input for Hispanic Heritage Month or anytime! Each reading describes a notable Hispanic/Hispanic American and includes their name, flag for heritage, illustration, name, birthday, family, notable facts or accomplishments, and footnotes for vocabulary help. These make a great Hispanic Heritage Month Bulletin Board too!

These are written mostly in present tense to make them comprehensible for beginner level students. They include lots of examples of the following structures and vocabulary: me llamo, mi nombre es, se llama, tengo, family vocabulary, adjectives of nationality, professions

The readings can be used as a gallery walk with the included Busca a alguien que... activity. Just hang them around the classroom, hallway, etc. and let students move around to read each one. You can also print 2 or 4 per page to use as task cards on each desk or for other activities.

DIGITAL VERSIONS INCLUDED! I've included the readings in Google Slides format to project as a presentation, send one slide, etc. I've also included a landscape Google Slides version of the Busca a alguien que... activity for an option for paperless or distance learning. Also includes an interactive Google Slides activity that has the readings plus 3 true or false statements. Students drag "cierto" and "falso" icons underneath each statement. ✦Please see the video preview for a closer look!✦

What Spanish teachers are saying about these reading comprehension activities:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love using this as a gallery walk-type scavenger hunt - I print the slides with the questions on them, put them up on the wall, and have kids walk around with an answer sheet on a clipboard. Kids were really engaged. -Angie T.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I posted these reading passages around the classroom for students to do a gallery walk. They loved being able to move around! The passages are a very basic level and worked perfectly for my Spanish 1 students, even only a few weeks into school. I have continued using the passages as bell ringer activities with some basic questions for students to answer. I am very pleased with this product! -Karisa S.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect resource!!! Great comprehensible readings with lovely graphics. I use these as bell ringers every class for HHM. My Spanish 1s (with a little help) and 2s are both able to understand the readings. I love the similar structure across all of the biographies. My students are getting such great reading practice and diverse culture. ¡Mil gracias! -Srta. Mann

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It was very easy for my students to use independently. A simple reading for my Spanish 1 students. It gave them a sense of confidence to be able to understand what they were reading. -Rocio R.
