    Based on our history of Hip Hop and rap music songs, these making inferences nonfiction passages worksheets for middle school will keep your students engaged using song lyrics while they practice inferencing skills.     Students will listen to the songs then use the song lyrics as reading passages to complete the activities detailed below.

    The songs for these activities explore the lives of influential figures in Hip Hop and rap music and how the culture and music developed throughout history, providing excellent inferencing practice. These mini lessons are a great way to engage fans of rap music and students in general!

    - the song lyrics for use as a reading passage

    - links to listen to the songs with subtitles for students

    - multiple-choice, inferencing questions based on the song lyrics with the answer key

    - a "Turn and Talk" activity that challenges students to infer what the next era of rap or their favorite genre of music may be.

    How to use these activities:

    - Explain the concept of inferencing using the instructions on page 1.

    - Next, have students listen to each song for the corresponding reading passage while following along with the lyrics.

    - Guide students through answering question 1 as a class. Review with them as necessary.

    - Students will now answer the remaining multiple-choice questions.

    - The answer keys for the questions are located on the final pages of each activity.
