What educators are saying

Students really enjoyed getting creative with expressing themselves. most of them liked to find connections between pages, but some students preferred to sit back and let others do that part.
I continue to use this every year as a beginning of the year activity. Seeing the hexagons connect really helps to build community in the classroom!

Description

With this fun community-building activity for the first week, you'll...

  • Help students build relationships and community
  • Introduce one-pagers as a way to represent key ideas in your class
  • Teach kids how to use hexagonal thinking in a meaningful way
  • Get to know your students betters, and learn their names!

In this guided one-pager activity, kids create one-pagers about who they are. When they're done, you can snap a quick photo of them holding their one-pagers to help you learn their names!

Then use the included video to quickly and easily introduce them to hexagonal thinking, a discussion method you can return to over and over throughout the year.

Finally, guide them in creating a web of interconnected hexagonal one-pagers on your wall, showing how all the kids in the class are connected through different aspects of their identity.

This is a solid start-of-year activity, because it builds relationships while also introducing create methods you'll want to rely on throughout the year.
