Description

Have vs Has - Fun way to learn the present forms of the verb ‘To have’: Have and Has. A bundle that consists of a variety of materials: Posters, flashcards, cookie jar sorting game, and worksheets.

**********

Measurable Learning Outcomes: After this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Apply relevant grammar rules to distinguish between the usage of ‘Have’ and ‘Has’.
  • Demonstrate how to use ‘Have’ and ‘Has’ by forming three-word sentences using the verbs (Eg. I have brown eyes.).
  • Become more confident in communicating in English. (Understanding grammar merely helps introduce clarity to students’ learning experience but they shouldn’t be treated as the end goal!)

**********

Contents:

  • 3 Posters with the grammar rules and usage of 'Have' and 'Has' (Color + Black & White)

  • 40 Sentence Structure Flashcards (Color + Black & White): The flashcards cover the three most commonly uses of the verb 'to have': (1) Possession, (2) Relationship, (3) Characteristics. These flashcards include a picture + sentence with the relevant form of ‘have’. For example, one of the flashcards show a girl with a cupcake, under it is the sentence “She has a cupcake.” The verbs are color coded in blue.

  • 40 Fill-in-the-missing-verb Flashcards (Color + Black & White): Cut out the ‘have’ and ‘has’ word cards and laminate them for duration. Pick a few of these to use or if you like, go through all of them at once! Ask your students to put the correct form ‘have’ onto the blank box. You can use blu tack to stick the word card on temporarily.

  • Cookie Jar Sorting Game (30 Cookie Task Cards + 2 Jars): Each cookie task card is written with a fill-in-the-blank sentence. Students need to figure out what form of ‘have’ to use for the sentence. They need to put the cookie into the right jar. There are two jars, 1 labeled ‘have’ and 1 labeled ‘has’. Before you play this game, cut the cookies out (I usually cut around the cookies so no white parts are around it. So when kids put the cookie in the jar, it actually looks like it’s inside the jar!). Laminate the cookies cut out for duration.

  • 8 Worksheets (Only Black & White): Cut and paste the verbs to complete sentences, fill-in-the-blank with the verbs, describe yourself using the verbs, monster-themed worksheets requiring students to draw their own monster and to describe it in four sentences using the verbs, etc.
