What educators are saying

Great visual for teachers and students to refer back to as needed. Easy to follow design and format. Thank you!
Heggerty is so important in teaching phonemic awareness to beginning readers. The posters enhance what we are doing and is a visual to get the students engaged and ready to do the activities.

Description

Having trouble remembering the hand motions for the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program? We've got you covered! Just keep these posters handy and you can quickly remember what to do! Print them out and keep them with your book to help make those lessons flow smoothly, and keep your motions consistent.

This poster set is a supplement to the Michael Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program. This program, also frequently misspelled as "Haggerty," includes movements that are described, but not illustrated anywhere in the books, so I have made up these cards in order to simplify use of the program. These movements could be used to improve any phonemic awareness program, and I've included a few of my own suggestions mixed in with those from the Heggerty program. There are also several pages of tips for getting started and ways to help make this excellent program more successful.v

Motions are included for the following skills:

• Rhyming

• Identifying beginning sounds

• Identifying ending sounds

• Identifying middle sounds

• Adding phonemes (or syllables, words, etc.)

• Deleting phonemes (or syllables, words, etc.)

• Substituting phonemes (or syllables, words, etc.)

• Blending phonemes (Blending onsets and rimes)

• Segmenting words

*Note that posters are included in both color and black and white, and in large, small, and extra-small formats, for a total of 37 pages of posters. The rest of the file is filled with tips for use and implementation, for a total of 44 pages.
