Description

In the spirit of Halloween, I did this review of plotting points with my Algebra 1 students. Because for them the skills of plotting points is review, I called this "The Great Pumpkin Race" and had my students compete to plot the picture.

Whether you plot it as a race or use it as more of a teaching tool for younger students, this is a productive way to harness Haloween energy and embrace the festivity! At the bottom of the assignment there are a few questions about domain, range, and functions just to incorporate a bit more academic work into the activity!

The result picture of plotting is a jack-o'-lantern.

Explain each step in solving a simple equation as following from the equality of numbers asserted at the previous step, starting from the assumption that the original equation has a solution. Construct a viable argument to justify a solution method.
Understand that a function from one set (called the domain) to another set (called the range) assigns to each element of the domain exactly one element of the range. If 𝘧 is a function and 𝘹 is an element of its domain, then 𝘧(𝘹) denotes the output of 𝘧 corresponding to the input 𝘹. The graph of 𝘧 is the graph of the equation 𝘺 = 𝘧(𝘹).
