What educators are saying

I used these as choice and early finisher activities in the month of October with my 6th and 7th grade classes.
My students loved this resource! They were engaged and challenged by the material. I highly recommend this resource!!!

Description

Fun, challenging, low prep math tasks about a Haunted House!

Seven included tasks challenge students with a variety of math concepts from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. They use the floor plan of a haunted house to solve each problem!

Included tasks:

  • Area & Perimeter
  • Vertical & Horizontal Distance on the Coordinate Plane
  • Ratios and Proportions
  • Volume
  • Surface Area
  • Diagonal Distance
  • Parallel Slopes

Choose the tasks that best suit your classes, or let students choose! These are great for stations, groups, partners, a Halloween activity, or early finishers throughout October.

Tasks are provided in 3 formats:

  • Task card form (for individuals or partners)
  • Full-page print outs (for centers or groups)
  • Digital Google Slides format (for online learning)

Easily differentiate by choosing different tasks for different classes or different students. These are also great review topics for high school Geometry.

The resource is provided in both customary units (feet) and metric units (meters) versions.

This activity is not only fun, but it will push students to problem solve and think critically!

Answers keys are provided.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.
Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points in a coordinate system.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.
Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities. For example, “The ratio of wings to beaks in the bird house at the zoo was 2:1, because for every 2 wings there was 1 beak.” “For every vote candidate A received, candidate C received nearly three votes.”
Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems, e.g., by reasoning about tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams, double number line diagrams, or equations.
