Description

This unit will focus primarily on the ‘Self and Others” strand of HSP3M. Students will study the forces that influence and shape an individual’s socialization and behaviour. In this unit of study, students will be introduced to primary and secondary socialization agents.

In this socialization unit, students will be challenged to understand themselves in relation to the social elements affecting their behaviour and who they are!

This unit analyzes the ways in which a person is influenced and shaped by outside forces (family, friends, and media). This unit will help students see how their behaviour is modified when surrounded by their family, different social groups, and media outlets.

This unit will be an introspective look into who each student is, and what contributing agents are present in their lives and how much control they have in their socialization experience.. Students will be asked to look at their lives and critically identify, analyze, and assess contributing factors that shape their socialization process as well as behaviour

As a requirement of this unit students will be asked to examine various media outlets which include but are not limited to television, movies, print and live advertisement, and the world wide web. Students will be looking at these media outlets and looking at how they influence who they are as a person as well as a consumer, and the embedded messages (negative/positive) found in media outlets.

In the culminating task students will create an interactive presentation that will highlight their academic critical analysis and research of influences (family, friends, and media) that have helped shaped and model their behaviour and moreover who they are and strive to become.
