Description

This FULL SEMESTER COURSE (BUNDLE) is comprised of 8 units representative of over 60 topics from grade 1 to 7. They are IN THE SAME ORDER in which I teach pre-Algebra A at my charter school. Its purpose is to review the mathematics basics from grades 1 to 6 except for fractions (they will be dealt with in pre-Algebra B).

Included are 12 FINAL EXAM formats of varying difficulty. (NOTE: these units can take some time to go through and the all-important 8th unit can be difficult to reach. SO, I have constructed the FINALS so that they EXCLUDE UNIT 7 in case you are forced to skip it by in the course of the semester.)

Also INCLUDED is a TEACHER's GUIDE of every teaching reference utilized by the enclosed problems as well as every (large) diagram needed by the problems. From this alone each unit can be thought through and designed. Also included is a SPECIAL RUN of level 1 (simplest) problems that basically provides you with a preview of each of the units' skills. A READ ME FIRST text file puts the whole course in perspective.

Further, for each UNIT I have added a READ ME FIRST text file detailing what has worked well for me.

The course was designed and created when it became obvious that many of my secondary school students were actually at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade level relative to mathematics and were ill-prepared for any coursework at their presumed age level. This course is the result of a lot of experimentation and thought--which is still going on.

After reviewing and analyzing this course for purposes of placing it on the TpT website, I have to say that it sure is meant to inspire thought and, because of my emphasis on assigning difficulty levels to every problem, it can really be used as an instructional guide for just about any group of struggling high school students.

[The problems in All UNIT WORKSHEETS and the PREVIEW are printed in difficulty (1 [easy], 2 [not so easy], 3 [proficiency] up to 4 [mastery]) order within a skill. The actual difficulty level appears slightly to the left of the DK box of each problem in a very small font. Also, instructional references appear on worksheets but are optional on quizzes.]

RELATED ITEMS:
A questionnaire that I have used from year to year to ascertain if the new secondary student needs to have a pre-Algebra course is
the Pre-Algebra Questionnaire. I have found that ONLY a paper-based series of questions allows me to see the various weaknesses of each student. Take a look at it.

The included units of this 1st semester full course are the UNIT 1: Properties of Numbers , the UNIT 2: PLACE VALUE , the UNIT 3: Multiplication, etc., UNIT 4: BASIC (+, -, x) OPERATIONS,the UNIT 5: SIGNED NUMBERS, UNIT 6: LONG DIVISION, UNIT 7: ESTIMATION+ and UNIT 8: FACTORS & MULTIPLES.

Possibly the most important of all are the 2 semesters of Pre-Algebra that I have had to concoct and hone over the last decade. So, look at the HS [Remedial] Pre-Algebra B Sampler: (textbook-less course).
