Description

By examining their own water consumption, youth will think about the ways in which they use water both subsistently and luxuriously. They will learn about the global water crisis and work in groups to investigate potential solutions to water scarcity. Weighing the benefits and challenges of each proposed solution, students will then present on whether or not they think their solution is a viable strategy for water conservation.

Students are first asked to think about how much water they use daily. They compare this amount of water to the amount considered the minimum needed for survival. Noting the difference, they are then challenged to consider ways to conserve water, and to develop a Water Conservation pamphlet with tips and suggestions for preserving this essential resource. Then, students take a global look at water scarcity and work in small groups to research potential solutions to the problem on a systemic level. Each group
will develop a presentation about their investigated solution to share with the class, discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the solution, and decide whether or not they think it is a viable strategy for water conservation.
