What educators are saying

My third grader adores this unit to supplement reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It is engaging and encourages deep comprehension.
This was perfect for wrapping up the 2nd Harry Potter novel with my students and just write for the day before spring break!

Description

This 60+ page workbook for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (book 2) includes EIGHTEEN chapter work sets, SIX vocabulary activities, TWELVE literature exercises, and a GIANT final crossword review. This novel study is available in print (b+w and color), AND HAS A COMPATIBLE MODIFIED VERSION adapted with word banks & hints for lower-ability learners. Key included.

For the PRINT & DIGITAL (GOOGLE SLIDES) option, click here.

WORKBOOK CONTAINS:

  • COVER PAGE + TABLE OF CONTENTS (3 pages)
  • CHAPTER WORK (36 pages): Each chapter (18) has two pages of work which includes vocab terms from the reading, a fill-in-the-blank chapter summary, and 4-6 follow-up comprehension questions (short answer, T/F, and multiple choice). Each chapter has an additional page (or 2) for either a vocabluary review or a literature skill activity.
  • VOCABULARY REVIEWS (7 pages): There are vocab reviews after chapters 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, and 17. Activities include 2 crossword puzzles, 2 cryptograms, a choose-the-best-usage activity, and a 30-term word search puzzle.
  • LITERATURE SKILL ACTIVITIES (15 pages): Every chapter that doesn't have a vocab review has a literature skill activity. Skills include: character traits, setting, foreshadowing, onomatopoeia, drawing conclusions, alliteration, plot, similes, literary devices recap, identifying characters' quotes, sequencing, and a movie vs book compare/contrast.
  • SUMMARY ACTIVITY (4 pages): There's a GIANT crossword activity at the end reviewing the entire book, with 51 clues, a word bank, and the puzzle. Fun alternative to a traditional assessment. This crossword is also available for FREE - CLICK HERE.

The workbook is available as a PDF in black + white (most convenient for printing) and in color. A MODIFIED version (in b+w & color) is included for SPED and struggling learners. Adaptations include adding word banks under fill-in-the-blank chapter summaries (all 18), a modified vocab activity showing definitions, and a few helpful hints not in the regular version. Students who’d benefit from modified curriculum can complete this COMPATIBLE version along side peers completing the regular version. Adaptations are subtle, in small print, and aren't obviously different than the regular version.

NOTE: The zip file contains the workbooks (4 versions) and key as separate PDFs for easy printing.

For a quick & simple resource for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets that's NOT AN EXTENSIVE NOVEL STUDY, try chapter-by-chapter comprehension guide fill-in-the-blank summaries on TRI-FOLD BOOKMARKS or GOOGLE SLIDES. Content from these resources (chapter summaries) are included in the workbook.
