Description

This product is designed to assist early childhood teachers and educators to facilitate the embedding of indigenous perspectives into their routine, program, and focused teaching. This product has been designed with the utmost sensitivity and respect for the indigenous people of Australia.

A Guide to Using This Resource:

1. The table included provides suggestions for educators and teachers, to facilitate further learning with children. As a child’s interest is observed, e.g. you may observe a child cooking during play, then you can refer to the table, sectioned “cooking”, for suggestions to extend upon the child’s learning and play, with indigenous perspectives embedded.

2. The Conversation Starter Cards are intended for use during small group or whole group discussions. You may choose to use the cards in a “yarning circle” fashion, with a “yarning stick”, to encourage each child to share their thoughts. Read the question or comment on any chosen card. You may prefer to choose a card related to the children’s current interests. Allow the children a moment to think about it, then encourage each child to share their thoughts. As the discussion unfolds, you will be able to identify teachable moments to develop children’s knowledge and thinking, around indigenous perspectives. Please use these cards with sensitivity and discretion.
