What educators are saying

Super engaging for my law students! They had a great time guessing what the sentence was and it did stimulate discussion on crime and punishment. Thanks!
I used this in my Sociology class during our Crime & Deviance Unit. They particularly liked discussing the O.J. Simpson case.

Description

This is a great activity when you introducing crime, deviance, and social control to a class. A google presentation is given that highlights 6 cases. Students have a handout that goes with the presentation (teacher lecture notes are provided) where they can define key words mentioned. Key words examples are: recidivism, incarceration, white collar crime, rehabilitation, etc. 6 high interest cases will be presented by the teacher and students will have to guess the sentence. Some cases include: OJ Simpson, Benji Wilson, Martha Stewart, and the case of Affluenza (Ethan Couch). There will be three possible options of what was the actual sentence/verdict. Students will select the best one (in their opinion). Students share answers and discuss the case with peers.

This fits nicely into a sociology deviance unit or an intro activity in American law.

This is a great activity for remote learning or in-class learning. If students are in-class I highly recommend it as a partner activity.
