Description

Adding positive social activities to your day can be difficult. Having a built in routine is helpful for creating that growth mindset in your students. Since every class is different and every child is different, attaining this goal can be tricky. This is a great resource to help you attain your goal of a Positive Classroom Community by adding fun, positive activities routinely to your classroom!

As teachers and leaders of the community, our number one goal is to make sure that we are being a positive role model. We MUST BE everything we are expecting our students to be.

Our second goal is to make sure we are praising our students when we see them modeling the positive behavior. This is especially true for students that are having a difficult time seeing the benefit of these statements.

One thing that I know for certain, is that EVERYONE likes and maybe even NEEDS PRAISE. Think about it…. When someone praises you for something, doesn’t it make you want to continue what you were praised for and even do it better?

I know how it makes me feel when my principal gives me a genuine compliment for something specific that she has seen me do. With that being said, your praise Must be GENUINE and it must be SPECIFIC.

The objectives in these statements are things that make BETTER PEOPLE. I do not praise for good grades or anything that can be measured, such as number of books read, or number of math problems completed in a time frame.

Not every child is capable of those things, so try to praise for things that keep them all on the same playing field, so to speak. Even then, some students have socio-economic, social, behavioral and domestic problems that will interfere.

Just continue praising whenever possible/as much as possible and you will make progress. All of these statements come from LOVE. Every child needs to be loved, so here’s a great opportunity to bond with your students and make lasting relationships with each one.

You are likely to bond more with your challenging students, since they need so much more of your time and affection.
