Description

This is a grading rubric to be used by students to grade their group members after a collaboration assignment.

I use this rubric in my classroom by distributing it to each member of every group in the last 5 minutes of class on a group work day. Students are required to score each member of their group including themselves. Students must provide an explanation as to why they would score a student less than a 3 on the grading rubric to ensure that they low scoring was merited.

This rubric allows teachers to differentiate grading for students who do more of the work in a group than others, and requires students to be accountable for the work they are doing to progress toward the end product.

In my experience, students are generally pretty honest in the grading of themselves along with their group members; therefore, this has been a way to more accurately grade group participation.
