What educators are saying

I used this with my dual enrollment COMP II students as a great way to keep them engaged in the TED Talk and to have a resource to look back on later. We used this in tandem with Angela Duckworth's Grit book. Thank you!
I work at an Adolescent PHP. We have a different theme each month regarding mental health issues. I love using different resources like this to reinforce the lessons we are learning.

Description

This resource includes both a printable worksheet and Google Drive (paperless) option. It is intended to be used with Angela Duckworth's TED Talk, "Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance." The TED Talk (video), worksheet, class discussion, and online activity can be completed in one class period. The video, worksheet, and online activity can also be assigned as homework. A bonus "One-Pager" extension activity is also included.

This video and worksheet are appropriate for most high school-level Social Studies and English classes. This lesson can also be incorporated into a Life Skills class or as part of a Study Skills or College and Career Readiness unit.

TED lessons can be used as mini-lessons or to supplement a prepared unit. I often assign TED lessons as make-up work or extra credit. They also make great lesson plans on "sub days."

From TED:

Leaving a high-flying job in consulting, Angela Lee Duckworth took a job teaching math to seventh graders in a New York public school. She quickly realized that IQ wasn't the only thing separating the successful students from those who struggled. Here, she explains her theory of "grit" as a predictor of success.
