Description

STOP using boring skill-and-drill worksheets to teach your elementary and middle school students Greek & Latin roots, prefixes, & suffixes. Instead, use these interactive, hands-on activities and watch your students’ vocabulary take off! This resource includes 10 weeks of lessons, including word lists, games, activities, worksheets, interactive notebook pages, and answer key.

What You’ll Get

You will have everything you need to teach, practice, and assess ten weeks of Greek & Latin morphology lessons.

This unit is organized by week. Each week includes:

  • a suggested 5 day lesson plan.
  • a choice day with 3 suggestions (Any needed templates are included.)
  • word list and definitions.
  • interactive notebook piece.
  • interactive activities such as Dominoes, Go Fish, and Puzzles.
  • a worksheet each week.

Each week features 1-2 word parts and 10 vocabulary words. These lists could easily be shortened to fewer words.

Word parts covered in unit 1 are:

  • non-
  • re-
  • dis-, in-
  • -ly, -y
  • -ous, -ious
  • script/scrib, graph
  • auto
  • tele, photo
  • -ist

Week 10 is a review week.

Why Teachers Love It!

  • Word lists are limited to 10 words to make it easier for students to practice & apply the words - better for long-term retention.
  • Save time by using these lessons for both spelling and vocabulary!
  • The unit spirals previously learned words into the hands-on activities in order to keep those words "fresh."
  • Student choice allows students to select how they practice their vocabulary words.
  • The hands-on activities are easy-to-prep.
  • Games are rotated to prevent boredom, but reused so students will know how to play - less instruction needed!
  • Use the games and activities all year long for centers, early finishers, Friday Fun Day, at-home practice, and more!

What Teachers Are Saying

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Highly recommend this resource! Ingenious way for students to expand their knowledge of root words. I have taught Greek & Latin roots for years, but the creative ways students are exposed to featured roots and related words really reinforce their understanding. - Rhonda H.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This is a very well-made resource, ready to go including lesson plans and extra activities. My students really enjoy the activities and are learning great vocab as well. - Stephen T.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This was perfect for my intervention students when we were looking at affixes. So easy to use and so engaging! - Diandra G.

Teacher Notes

This unit was design with grades 4-5 in mind. It would also work well in grades 6-8, but I am not sure that it would work as well in 3rd grade.
