Description

Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to introduce graphing concepts to your students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! It includes frequency tables, picture graphs, pictographs, scaled picture graphs, scaled bar graphs, and line plots. Use his PowerPoint over the course of multiple days as you cover the various graphing concepts.

In total, this PowerPoint contains 28 multiple-choice practice questions... ideal for test prep!!

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

HERE'S THE SEQUENCE OF TOPICS COVERED IN THIS POWERPOINT:

Slides 1-8: Introduction to Collecting Data

Slides 9-20: Introduction to Tally Charts and Frequency Tables as well as Interpreting the Data on Tally Charts and Frequency Tables

Slides 21-30: Pictographs (also called Scaled Picture Graphs) After students learn about the basic arrangement of pictographs, they interpret 3 sample pictographs and draw one for themself.

Slides 31-51: Scaled Bar Graphs Students are introduced to the layout and essential pieces of scaled bar graphs. Next, students compare and contrast vertical bar graphs and horizontal bar graphs. Then, students interpret 3 sample bar graphs. Finally, students are presented with the steps to draw 2 bar graphs (1 vertical and 1 horizontal).

Slides 52-57: Relating Scaled Picture Graphs to Scaled Bar Graphs More interpretation practice is provided in this section!

Slides 58-66: Line Plots Students are introduced to the layout and essential pieces of line plots. Next, students interpret 3 sample line plots. Finally, students are presented with the steps to draw a line plot.

Slides 67-70: Displaying Measurement Data on a Line Plot

***A PowerPoint companion handout is also included in this file. As you advance through the PowerPoint, students can record their answers on the handout. The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format.**

Here's what teachers like you have to say about using this PowerPoint to teach their students about interpreting graphs:

⭐️ Jane D. said, "Engaging way to introduce graphing to my third graders. I chunked the PPT and it was exactly what I needed to introduce each type of graph prior to diving into partner and independent applications."

⭐️ Mirna H. said, "This resource is so well put together! The slides are interactive and engaging, the visuals are amazing, the information is clearly presented. The accompanying worksheets and digital Google Slides for note-taking are incredible as well. This may be the best resource I have purchased on TPT!"

⭐️ Sheila G. said, "I found it so easy to use, and the students enjoyed trying to answer the questions before I showed them. It was easy for them to follow and was great practice for them. I used it as the introduction, but by the end, I had a great assessment of their skills complete for me to use. I will definitely use it again next year!"

⭐️ Taylor B. said, "Lifesaver and one of the best purchases on here. I always look for your PowerPoints because they are so clear and interactive."

This PowerPoint was created to specifically address the 3rd grade Common Core State Standard MD.B.3 and MD.B.4. (It can be used with multiple upper elementary grade levels, though, as this is a skill that is assessed at all grade levels.)

Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve one- and two-step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent 5 pets.
Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units-whole numbers, halves, or quarters.
