What educators are saying

My students had a fun time doing all the station and decoding the messages. The stations were the perfect amount of difficulties for them as well. Love it!
We used this on the last day before Spring Break, and the students had a great time working the problems.

Description

Grammar Escape Room Activity - Commas, Spelling, Homophones, Capitalization: Help your students understand and practice grammar rules with this highly engaging interactive escape room breakout activity! Students will circulate the classroom to visit stations and complete puzzles and challenges related to the following grammar topics: commas, capitalization, homophones, and spelling. This will engage even your most reluctant students!

How The Grammar Escape Room Activity Works:

Students work in small groups and move about the classroom to five different stations to complete puzzles and activities related to grammar rules (commas, capitalization, homophones, and spelling). The goal of the escape room is to complete the task at each station successfully and retrieve a variety of mystery code words.

  • Counting Comma Corrections: In the first station, students correct sentences by adding missing commas. They order the cards by how many grammar mistakes they fixed and use words on the cards to reveal a mystery word.
  • Homophone Corrector: In the second station, students do a close reading of a paragraph about rollercoasters that contain homophone errors. Students put the correct homophones into the answer booklet to reveal a mystery word!
  • Capitalization Puzzle: In the third station, students assemble four puzzles, revealing sentences containing errors in capitalization. Students are required to write down the words that should be capitalized and use the information to reveal a numeric code.
  • Spelling Quotes: In the fourth station, students will read famous quotes that include an error with a commonly misspelled word. Students write the properly spelled word in the answer booklet to reveal a secret mystery word.
  • The Encryption Station: The final station has students decode an encrypted message based on hidden symbols they have to find throughout the game to reveal a quote!

What Teachers Are Saying About the Grammar Escape Room Activity:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Super resource. My class worked in small groups to crack the codes and each one was sufficiently challenging and engaging. I used this as an end of year recap activity and it was a brilliant way to keep my class engaged in those last few weeks.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We used this for a class just before Christmas break (when students are sort of checked out mentally) and they were very engaged and got some extra grammar practice in before heading out for break. And I had to do very little to facilitate it. Great product!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I use this as a way to review before an assessment. They love working in teams and trying to be the first group to finish!
