Description

The Grade 5, Unit 5: Four-Digit Addition and Subtraction supplemental resource is designed to briefly review four-digit addition and subtraction knowledge and skills with students. This resource features 5 lessons, 10 printable practice pages as well as assessments and problems for students to solve.

Please note that this resource does not feature any digital components. This resource is a PDF file containing activities, assessments and lessons that you will need to print in order to use with students.

Please also note that this resource is meant to review four-digit addition and subtraction with students. Further addition and subtraction practice pages can be found within the addition and subtraction supplemental resource where students add and subtract whole numbers up to 100 000.


Specific Expectations

This resource is based on the 2020 Ontario Mathematics curriculum expectations. There is not a specific expectation that has students add and subtract within 10 000 as this is a Grade 4 concept, but the expectation that is partially targeted is:

  • B2.4 Represent and solve problems involving the addition and subtraction of whole numbers that add up to no more than 100 000, and of decimal numbers up to hundredths, using appropriate tools, strategies, and algorithms


Lessons Included

The lessons included in this resource are three main parts, with additional subsections. The main portions of the lesson include minds on, action, and lesson consolidation.

  • Lesson 5.1: Four-Digit Addition Review
  • Lesson 5.2: Four-Digit Addition Review
  • Lesson 5.3: Four-Digit Subtraction Review
  • Lesson 5.4: Four-Digit Subtraction Review
  • Lesson 5.5: Four-Digit Operation Review

Each lesson takes approximately 50 - 60 minutes to complete. Students gain an understanding through group discussion, both whole and small-group.

You may need to supplement this resource with other activities if students need additional practice.

Does this resource include answer keys? Yes, this resource includes answer keys for all applicable pages. There are no answer keys for the problem-solving activity pages, as these answers are shared within the lesson plan.
