Description
The Grade 3, Unit 4: Human Development and Sexual Health supplemental resource is designed to supplement your unit for the Human Development and Sexual Health strand. The resource is based on the 2019 Ontario Health and Physical Education curriculum document.
About the Resource
This unit builds on the concepts and ideas explored in Grade 2. Students explore the characteristics of healthy relationships and develop an understanding of the actions that make a relationship healthy versus unhealthy. Students also explore consent and the importance of communicating consent in their interactions with others. Students learn that consent is permission for something to happen or an agreement to do something. Consent is an important part of a healthy relationship. As part of the healthy relationship exploration, students also explore what bullying is and ways that bullying can be responded to.
Students also explore factors that affect physical development, social-emotional development, and the development of a healthy body image. The final portion of this resource has students explore how visible and invisible differences make each person unique. Students explore ways of showing respect for the differences in others and how acknowledging these differences as making us unique helps to develop a healthy body image.
