What educators are saying

Simple and easy to use. I love the lesson plan format, even as an experienced teacher it is sometimes so nice to have everything laid out for you.

Description

The Grade 3, Unit 21: Mass and Capacity supplemental resource is designed to meet the 2020 Ontario Mathematics curriculum expectations for mass and capacity. Students, in this grade, are asked to measure mass and capacity using non-standard units. The goal is that students will be able to solidify their understanding of how to appropriately and accurately measure mass and capacity while understanding how overfilling, underfilling and leaving gaps can impact measurements.

Quick Resource Overview

This resource features 6 lessons and 12 printable activity pages. You will need to supply additional materials not included in this resource including:

  • Balance Scales
  • Containers
  • Non-Standard Units

The specific expectations that this resource addresses are:

  • E2.3 Use non-standard units appropriately to estimate, measure, and compare capacity, and explain the effect that overfilling or underfilling, and gaps between units, have on accuracy
  • E2.4 Compare, estimate, and measure the mass of various objects, using a pan balance and non-standard units

There is no digital version of this resource available. The activities, assessments and lessons are meant to be printed and used in the in-person classroom.
