CCSS first grade 1.OA.7, but can be modified for grades 2 & 3.

This flipchart begins by reviewing what the = sign means then moves on to basic picture counting. Students move the correct number to match the = amount shown. Visuals of balance scales demonstrate the concept of = and un= with counters and equations. There is more practice with pictures where you have to make both sides =. Then it moves on to given equations and students drag copies of the = or un=signs to make the number sentences true. They are encouraged to show all of their work. ActivExpression assessment questions are included in yes/no format where students decide if the equations are correct. Answers are listed and a magic revealer is provided for self-checking.
