Description

-These 6th grade MATHEMATICS Learning Scales for the BEST MATHEMATICS Standards are a great resource for a Florida Teacher to use with the students so that the students will understand the expectations on the MATHEMATICS Assessment for PM1, PM2, and PM3.

- Each Learning Scale card focuses on a category and benchmark which is worded in the form of I CAN STATEMENTS by Achievement Level Descriptor. As part of the introduction to the benchmark the teacher could help the class understand the differences in the wording among the different levels (1-5) and have the students write simpler students friendly synonyms above the academic vocabulary.

- As benchmarks are instructed, the teacher can continuously use these as reference points either by keeping them together as a booklet or taping the Benchmark in an Interactive Notebook as part of their learning. The student can take notes in the margin space titled NOTES about related academic vocabulary, sample released question stems, graphic organizers, or any notes the teacher find valuable for the student's instruction relating to the benchmark.

A great resource to accompany these would be to utilize the Gr. 6 TEACHER Learning Scales which also have the Examples and Clarifications and the full spectrum of benchmarks as a reference point. The teacher can add his/her notes and talking points to these cards to use as "cheat sheets" to reference when instructing the students. In addition, the teacher cards have a link to the Big M so that all resources needed are in one place.
