I teach this course without a textbook, so everything that is provided here, can be used without supplementation. The only thing I use in my class that is NOT included in this content is the secured AP® exam questions.

Lesson 1: Understanding the Internet

  • Students will be able to define the internet and explain its importance in the modern world.
  • Students will be able to explain how computers are connected into networks and the tradeoffs involved in building different types of networks.

Lesson 2: Internet Infrastructure

  • Students will be able to explain how computers are able to send information across a network using the internet protocols and routing.

Lesson 3: Internet Addressing

  • Students will be able to explain how IP addresses are used in internet communication.
  • Students will be able to explain how DNS works and its role in translating domain names to IP addresses.
  • Students will be able to explain the role of protocols in internet communication.
  • Students will be able to explain the basics of web browsers, HTML, and how web pages are displayed.

Lesson 4: Emerging Technologies and the Future of the Internet

  • Students will be able to explore trends and technologies shaping the future of the internet, which include the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Blockchain.

Lesson 5: Parallel and Distributed Computing

  • Students will understand how the Internet has changed data processing and storage with distributed, parallel, and cloud computing.

Lesson 6: Digital Divide

  • Students will investigate and describe issues that contribute to the digital divide.
