    Description

All products in this bundle were created and shared on Google Apps, so they are all customizable if desired. The products include a Digital Escape Room and presentation with an accompanying graphic organizer.

    About the Digital Escape Room:

I created this escape room to introduce the Islamic Golden Age to my students. They don’t need any prerequisite about the Golden Age knowledge to complete this activity.

However, my students have already learned the words caliphate and mosque in what we’ve studied so far in relation to Islam (they’re answers to the rebus clues in locks 3 and 5), so they'll need to know those words.

This breakout features 12 locks. The kids will need to work together to

    solve clues involving

    • map skills
    • custom Wordles as well as custom Worldles (these are two different things)
    • cheesy rebuses
    • a virtual jigsaw puzzle
    • solve a basic algebraic equation
    • use a formula and find to find the area of "the round city"
    • using knowledge gained by reading quick overviews on topics like achievements in math and science

This product contains a link to a game I created on Breakout Edu. You and your students don't need a Breakout Edu account to play. All the clues are already loaded, and the game is entirely ready to go. I made every clue using Google Slides or a link to another site (such as Jigsaw planet).

I also included my Google Drive folder containing every clue (all clues are in the form of either slides or links). This way, you can copy it and customize the escape room clues to meet your needs. If you do make changes, you'll need to recreate the breakout in either Breakout Edu, Google Forms, or another format so that you can incorporate the changes that you've made.

I included an answer key as well.

These take considerable time to put together, but the kids have a blast with them, making it worthwhile.

All slides are viewable by any on the web, but please make sure that your district allows students to view slides outside of their organization before purchase. And if your district blocks jigsaw planet, this activity is still well worth it. Just give them the answer included in the key for that slide.

About the Presentation and Graphic Organizer

This Google Slides presentation provides middle school students with an overview of the Islamic Golden Age. The 26 slides include maps, high-quality visuals, a few short and engaging video clips, and an embedded 20-question Quizizz game to review the material.

Some of the concepts and individuals addressed include Harun al-Rashid, the Abbasid Caliphate, the city of Baghdad, the House of Wisdom and translation movement, achievements in math, science, art, and individuals who contributed to those respected fields (al-Kwarizmi, Ibn Sina, etc.).

A graphic organizer for students to take notes is included. Skeleton/guided notes could also be produced if one finds that necessary.

Everything is made utilizing Google Apps so that you can customize the presentation and the graphic organizer to better align with your curriculum or the needs of your students.

If modifying the presentation, you'll need to edit the theme template to change most of the slides. Please go to view and "theme builder" to make any needed changes.
