Goal Setting with Digital Vision Boards Using Google Slides or Power Point

This lesson is designed to help students envision and articulate their goals and dreams...digitally. In their end of year survey, this project-based lesson was remembered as a favorite! Everyone can benefit from a Vision Board. While I designed it for my 9th Grade AVID class, I recommend it for ASB, College and Career Education, Character and Life Skills. Use it to kick off the New Year, Genius Hour/Twenty Time, or to send your students off with an end of year treasure as they anticipate their next steps.

This lesson promotes autonomy, as students view the how-to videos and collect images-- and collaboration as students share tips and tricks with one another. Using images collected through prompts on Google Slides or Power Point, students will identify their values and intentions. Students will assemble their final Vision Boards and present them to the class by sharing three goals and highlighting the corresponding images. This lesson took my 9th graders a week.

• An editable assignment and rubric for the vision board and oral presentation

• How-To's for print and non-print options for final Vision Boards including binder or portfolio covers, a student-centered bulletin board, screen savers, and individual posters

• Google Slide and Power Point versions available--this was made in Google Slides and downloaded as a Power Point. Just drag the presentation into your drive if desired.

My students required three class periods for the collection process. My teaching style is highly collaborative, and we paused to discuss their goals and how best to represent them in writing. My AVID students really enjoyed the process, and there was a nice exchange of chatter as we worked. I made one, too! Our final assembly took two hours, and I had students upload their finished Vision Boards as PNGs to one class slide presentation, so they could present their goals and final Vision Board with the class.

You can confidently upload the assignment to Google Classroom, or the delivery method of your choice, and know that students need only press PLAY to see how to complete the tasks. This instructional videos use the Google platform, but the skills wiill readily transfer to Power Point.
