Description

Students approximate the volume of The Great Pyramid of Giza by calculating the volume of each layer. This requires finding the angle of elevation then using similar right triangles to approximate the width of each step so they can find the width of each layer. A google sheet is linked to show students how to do calculations of this magnitude efficiently. A video explaining the volume formula proof is also linked to show students the use of mathematical models to approximate volume instead of slicing. Linkage to calculus for a faster way to find volume using slicing is also introduced. A homework with answers is linked in the paperclip feature on the last slide.
