Description

This hands-on Gingerbread unit is perfect for the month of December and the weeks leading up to Christmas break. The goal of the unit is to guide students to compare two or more versions of the Gingerbread Man. Our favorite books are The Gingerbread Girl, The Ninjabread Man, The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, and the original Gingerbread Man. We have included read aloud links if you don't have all versions of the story.

This unit starts off by reviewing story elements and completing story maps of two different versions of the same story. Next, student play a class game to compare the two stories as they move to the “alike” or “different” side of the classroom. Students can work with partners or teams to complete a Venn Diagram. Next, students can decorate gingerbread cookies or use the included pattern to make their own construction paper Gingerbread Man. Last, students write their own version of The Gingerbread Man. A winter color by code and several graphic organizers are included to be used with any other gingerbread story. This unit is perfect for a fun Gingerbread Day or you can spread it out over an entire week!
