1. Gifted and Talented Unit - Design A Walking Tour Unit
Students work to research and design a walking tour for a location of their choice! They will create a website and/or a brochure as well as design a social media marketing plan and an app. The unit guides students through researching famous walking tours, picking a city to create a walking tour, choosing and researching 10 locations, creating information "at a glance" sheets for each location, finding or taking photographs of these locations, creating a map of the locations, and compiling their information on an easy to navigate brochure and/or website. The unit provides extension by asking students to create a marketing social media plan and plans for an app for their tour!

2. Gifted and Talented Unit - Design Your Own Olympic Games
A "no prep" project based learning unit for the upper elementary students! Students work to research and design a bid to hold the next Olympic Games in a city of their choice! They will made decisions about location, city needs, development, map, and budget.They will plan a logo, mascot, medal design, torch, and torch relay plan to uniquely brand their Olympic Games. They will write a speech to convince local citizens to support their bid to be the next Olympic Games host city. Finally, they will compile these features into a digital presentation to the board to win the title of host city of the next Olympic Games!

3. Gifted and Talented Unit - The Best Winter Mineral/Plan Your Dream Snow Day Unit
The purpose of these projects are for students to work research the science of snow and to design and plan their own "Dream Snow Day"! In this enrichment activity, students will plan their dream snow day. They will pick a date, weather forecast, snow outfit and snow gear, and itinerary for their day! They will share their imaginary day through writing a blog post and creating three instagram posts to share your day.

4. Gifted and Talented- Time Travel Unit
The purpose of this unit is for students to investigate the philosophies of time and time travel. The students will apply this information to designing their own time travel vehicle and method. This unit provides support for student to research philosophies of time and time travel and to design their own time travel machine as a final project to apply their research. The students will research time definitions, philosophies of time, philosophies of time travel. They will complete an experiment to assess their grasp on time, debate the ethics of time travel, and use their research to design their own time travel method and vehicle!

5. Gifted and Talented Social Activity -Cupcake Competition
This social event is a fun opportunity to add fun into a task that requires creativity and problem solving. The students will be given a surprise supply of candy and given the task to design a set of cupcakes based on a student-chosen theme. They will then draw a backdrop and present it to a panel of judges.

6. Gifted and Talented Unit - Field Trip Design Project
Students work to research and design a field trip of their choice! The unit workbook provides an explanation of the things that need to be considered when designing a field trip. The workbook is then broken into segments based on these topics: Distance/Location, Academic Connection, Policies/Chaperones, Budget/Cost, Date of Trip, Food, Timing, Fun Elements, Itinerary and Presentation. The culminating activity of the mini-unit is for students to design a presentation to persuade the "Board of Education" that they have planned an effective and meaningful field trip with an academic connection.

These units have proved to be very successful with my 3-6 gifted and talented enrichment class. They are also designed for student independence (with limited teacher guidance) for differentiation for gifted students or early finishers within the heterogeneously grouped classroom.
